Five simple daily habits to start this week

Ayurveda puts a lot of weight on routine. These five small habits are easy to begin and easy to keep.

Ayurveda calls a steady daily rhythm dinacharya. You do not need to change everything at once. Pick one habit, keep it for a week, then add the next.

1. Wake at a similar time

A regular wake time helps set the rhythm for meals, energy and sleep. Aim for within an hour of the same time each day.

2. Start the day with warm water

A glass of warm water is a gentle, low-effort way to start eating and drinking well for the day.

3. Keep meal times regular

Eating at similar times each day helps many people notice hunger and fullness more clearly. Try not to skip meals or leave long gaps.

4. Move your body every day

A walk after meals or a short stretch session is enough to begin with. The best routine is the one you will actually do.

5. Wind down in the evening

Dim the lights, put screens away earlier than usual and keep the last meal of the day lighter. A calm evening makes it easier to fall asleep.

If you have a medical condition, are pregnant or take regular medicines, check with your doctor before changing your diet or routine.
