A gentle skin routine: cleanse, protect, nourish

You do not need ten products. A short, consistent routine and a few cautions go a long way.

Healthy skin usually responds best to consistency and gentleness. Start simple and change one thing at a time so you can tell what helps.

Cleanse

Wash your face once or twice a day with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water. Avoid harsh scrubs and very hot water, which can leave skin dry and irritated.

Protect

Sun protection matters whatever your skin type. Use sunscreen on exposed skin during the day, and cover up when you are outside for long.

Nourish

Moisturise after cleansing. Drink enough water, eat plenty of fruit and vegetables, and sleep well. Traditional oils and herbal preparations are widely used, but patch test any new product on a small area first.

When to see a doctor

See a doctor if you have a rash that does not settle, painful or spreading spots, a mole that changes, or acne that scars or does not respond to simple care.
